The Bio-ID

The Bio-ID is the world’s first platform to integrate Inanovate’s patented LAS technology. The Bio-ID is a multiplexed protein quantification platform which, in real-time, measures protein concentrations from complex matrices. The instrument combines high sensitivity confocal imaging and microfluidics alongside protein based microarrays, resulting in a novel solution to the problems associated with existing state-of-the-art multiplexed platforms.

Instead of depending on a 96-well micro-titer plate, the Bio-ID utilizes a glass slide based protein microarray combined with microfluidics for dispensing and binding samples and detection antibodies. A typical Bio-ID cartridge is shown in the photo to the below right.

In its most basic form, the protein microarray is composed of capture antibodies for the proteins (analytes) being measured, as well as positive and negative quality control features for ensuring sample to sample, run to run, lot to lot, and user to user consistency.

Conceptually similar to a real-time PCR reaction, the Bio-ID iteratively flows small volumes of sample and labeled detection antibodies across the protein microarray (housed on Inanovate’s fluidic cartridges) and fluorescently measures the formation of the sandwich between capture antibody, analyte of interest, and detection antibody.Glass Slides

Due to the time-resolved nature of the assay, the resulting data is a rate of reaction, instead of a simple final fluorescent reading. This ‘rate of reaction’ based analysis helps deliver the unique advantages of the Bio-ID:

  • Large detection range: The Bio-ID can accurately quantify proteins across a 7log range of concentrations in a single multiplex test; compared to a 3 to 4log range of present state-of-the-art systems. This eliminates the need for serial dilutions, making multiplexing faster, cheaper and helping preserve precious samples.
  • Multiplexing flexibility: Due to its large detection range, the Bio-ID allows users to run virtually any assay of interest within the same multiplex test; making the Bio-ID the worlds first platform to enable the development and use of truly biologically relevant multiplexes.
  • Improved accuracy: The Bio-ID produces and analyses real-time kinetic data on protein interactions (rate of reaction data). This enables improved identification and discrimination of background and non-specific signals, and delivers users with a greater depth of information on each assay so that a more accurate and reliable assessment of the assay results can be made.

Furthermore, the system offers the flexibility to run both small and large multiplexes, and its fluidic cartridge delivers a fully automated assay process minimizing opportunities for human error.
